memory mapping

The second mid-presentation 'memory mapping' was held in the presentation room CAESUUR in Middelburg in October 2004. installation work with drawings and video / animation work was shown in the space.
Next to the installation work, two performance works 'muzikaal ommetje' and 'broodje dansen' were made in Arnemuiden.

four streets circle walk

During the interviews with the public, I have found out that people in earlier times used to walk in circles on four different streets in Arnemuiden, sometimes accompanied by music.
In the village in Japan where my mother comes from, people also dance in circles. What if musicians were to walk in circles and play both Dutch and Japanese tunes which are all songs from fishermen's villages?

bread dance

I was fascinated by the old photograph I found in the archive and made a drawing of it. This was a sketch of a fantasy dance in which two girls dance while holding bread in their hands. By looking at the drawing, somebody believed that such a dance existed in Arnemuiden.
That is why I wanted to make a live 'brootje dansen' in Arnemuiden.
I gave my sources of inspiration to two dancers, Yuka Takeuchi and Nairobi Perozo. They made movements inspired by their interpretation of those materials. This dance piece is made through the process of reacting to each other's materials and ideas.
